Mock Interview
Mock interviews are available to established clients of the Career Center. The mock interview is a realistic interview that helps you to sharpen your interview skills. This is an opportunity for you to interview with a human resource professional and respond to questions in a simulated situation. At the end of the session, you will receive valuable feedback and coaching on your performance including suggestions for improvement for future interviews. For more information or to schedule a mock interview, contact the career center at (804) 371-0277 or at careercenter@dhrm.virginia.gov . Informational Interview
An informational interview is a networking opportunity designed to interview someone who is well informed in a job or career about which you desire more knowledge. The goal of the informational interview is to collect data that helps you to choose or refine a career path, learn how to gain access, and find out what it takes to succeed in a particular career field. The informational interview is not the same as a job interview and its purpose is not to get job offers. The purpose of the informational interview is to create an opportunity that will assist you in gaining useful interviewing experience and prepare you for what to expect in a particular job or career field.
The following are reasons for informational interviews:
-
to explore careers and clarify your career goal,
-
to expand your professional network,
-
to build confidence for your job interviews,
-
to access the most up-to-date career information, and
to identify your professional strengths and weaknesses.
