Job Duties
Step into the role of Information Security Officer at the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development, where you will confidently protect our agency’s most valuable assets and safeguard vital information while implementing top-notch security practices.
In this strategic position, you will drive policy development and maintenance, execute robust risk management and analysis, and lead effective disaster recovery simulations. Your expertise will ensure rigorous audits and validations, alongside the creation of impactful security awareness programs and steadfast compliance oversight.
As our Information Security Officer (ISO), you will take charge of aligning our practices with the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Security Policies, Standards, and Guidelines. Your leadership will be instrumental in fortifying our critical information and technology systems against emerging threats.
Lead our efforts in securing critical information and technology systems, join DHCD, and be at the forefront of maintaining the integrity of public sector information.
Must be able to maintain certification(s) as a condition of employment.

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of the governmental agency’s information systems, goals and objectives, business processes, and operating environment.
Extensive knowledge of server, networking, security concepts, security penetration testing tools, security disciplines to include hacker techniques and countermeasures, exploits, intrusion detection, perimeter protection.
Thorough knowledge of diverse project management requirements, and business process management methodologies.
Strong stakeholder engagement and organizational skills.
Skills using security monitoring tools, security baselining tools, and Microsoft Office.
Ability to communicate information security-related concepts to a broad range of technical and non-technical staff.
Additional Considerations
Certification as a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP), or GIAC Security Essentials Certification (GSEC) is preferred. Must maintain certification(s) as a condition of employment.
Knowledge in Commonwealth of Virginia Information Technology Resource Management Information Security Standard (ITRM Standard SEC501), IT Risks Management Standard, IT Security Audit Standards, and Incident Management highly preferred.
